Case Study: Mathstoverse - Assignment Creator Tool
Overview
As the Lead Product Designer for the Mathstroverse Educator Portal, I designed the Assignment Creator Tool — an intuitive interface that allows teachers to quickly build, customize, and assign math missions aligned to curriculum standards. Educators were spending significant time navigating through lesson builders and static worksheets. The goal was to design a fast, intelligent, and flexible creation tool that minimizes effort while maximizes personalization — helping teachers create engaging math assignments that connect directly to their classroom's learning goals.
The Challenge
Teachers needed an efficient way to create assignments tailored to their students' needs, but existing tools were time-consuming, linear, and unintuitive. Many platforms forced educators to search through dense libraries of pre-made content, offering little flexibility or insight into how assignments aligned with specific standards.
- Cumbersome creation flow: Building an assignment required too many steps and manual linking to standards.
- No curriculum alignment guidance: Teachers struggled to ensure each challenge matched grade-level objectives.
- Lack of real-time feedback: Educators couldn't preview student-facing content or difficulty scaling until after publishing.
- Fragmented experience: Assignment creation was disconnected from classroom performance data.
Goal
To design a streamlined, AI-assisted assignment builder that enables educators to:
- Create assignments in under 5 minutes.
- Customize learning paths using ready-made or AI-suggested math challenges.
- Align tasks to curriculum standards automatically.
- Preview the student experience before publishing.
- Track and validate effectiveness through the integrated Performance Dashboard.
